10 Movie Franchises That Were Rebooted Multiple Times
5. Batman
The Dark Knight has had a long and convoluted relationship with the big screen.
Following the film adaptation of the classic TV series in 1966, he resurfaced in 1989 when Warner Bros. released the Tim Burton-directed Batman - a film so successful that it was credited for revolutionising superhero movies.
Batman went on to spawn three sequels, the latter of which was the critically-reviled Batman & Robin that destroyed everything and left the franchise in a state of development hell for years.
However, the Caped Crusader would receive a lifeline eight years later when Christopher Nolan rebooted the franchise with Batman Begins - the first in his acclaimed Dark Knight trilogy. Unlike the previous Batman saga, Nolan's trilogy got the chance to wrap up with 2012's The Dark Knight Rises, which ended both his and actor Christian Bale's tenures with the franchise.
Of course, Warner Bros. couldn't keep a lucrative property like Batman off-screen for long and, four years later, kick-started their own shared universe (the DCEU) with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, introducing us to Ben Affleck's iteration of the World's Greatest Detective.
Unfortunately for Affleck, both of the films he appeared in didn't go down too well with audiences and, with his subsequent departure from the DCEU and a mysterious prequel simply titled The Batman now on the horizon, fans are prepared for The Dark Knight to get yet another reboot.
