10 Movie Franchises We Never Want To See Rebooted Again

None of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' live-action outings have fared particularly well with critics, but fans of a certain age will always have a soft spot for the 1990 original, which is widely accepted as their finest outing.

After two sequels, the franchise lay dormant for over 20 years before it was rebooted by Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes. As terrifying as the CGI title characters may have looked, the movie still managed to earn almost $500m at the box office despite not getting much love from either fans or critics.

Sequel Out of the Shadows fared slightly better from a critical standpoint, but earned half as much as its predecessor despite throwing almost everything that people loved about the animated series onto the screen in an effort to cash in on the lucrative nostalgia market.

After spending over $250m on the budgets for two Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies that didn't turn anywhere near the profit the studio was expecting, plans for a third installment were shelved, and because this is Hollywood and no brand with any kind of earning potential gets left alone for too long, another reboot was announced less than two years later with Bay once again attached to produce.

At this rate, Platinum Dunes seem to be intent on rebooting the franchise over and over again until nobody cares anymore, which might already be the case given the tepid reactions that greeted Out of the Shadows.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
