10 Movie Heroes Who Were Actually Suffering A Nervous Breakdown
6. Frank Cross - Scrooged
A mental breakdown is never funny; unless Bill Murray is the one having it. His update of A Christmas Carol finds a ruthless TV executive slowly going insane as three ghosts make him revisit the mistakes in his life, or at least that's what he imagines is happening.
It could be that the stress from work and his own loneliness have driven him to madness, with all of his meaningful visions being a mix of drink, lack of sleep and his own frayed mental state as he realises he has nothing meaningful in his life. He also realises what a horrible b**tard he is, which plunges him even deeper into despair.
Although even if you take the ghosts literally, Cross still goes through some serious mental strife. His speech at the end is a man having a personal epiphany and a mental breakdown live on national television; which is a nice personal journey for the character, but he definitely got fired the next day.
