1. Colonel Kurtz - Marlon Brando - Apocalypse Now
Brando. That is all. Marlon Brando is awesome as the spooky, deranged mad man Colonel Kurtz. The entire film builds to his introduction and he does not disappoint. The psychology of Kurtz is very interesting, having witnessed and indeed ordered many brutal attacks during the bloody Vietnam War, Kurtz is a broken and traumatized man. Although we don't see him do any particularly mad dogs things, just listen to the guy speak! At the end he gives up his life having first ordered Willard to tell his wife and children the truth of what he had done. Kurtz is an awesomely acted broken man and despite his crimes, by the end of the film we maybe understand him a little more than we would like to admit.
