10 Movie Moments That Look Like CGI But Aren't

7. The Instant Bread - Star Wars: The Force Awakens

The Disney trilogy of Star Wars films had a bit of a mixed bag in terms of reception, with some confusing tonal issues, a couple standout decisions that hacked off a lot of fans and a whole running formula that felt rehashed and predictable. However, there were some undeniably powerful and passionate performances from most of the cast, with certain characters really standing out from what had come before in the franchise.

The most notable of these characters was Rey, played by Daisy Ridley. The Luke Skywalker-substitute for The Force Awakens, Rey begins the film by being introduced as a remote scavenger. During her introduction, she's shown cooking up a bread-based meal that rises ready to eat in just a couple of seconds.

It's one of those quirky little moments the Star Wars universe is prone to throwing up to make everything feel that little bit more magical, however this fantastical effect was surprisingly conjured up entirely practically by the film's special effects team.

According to the head of special effects, Chris Corbould, the instant bread took roughly three months to perfect and tasted absolutely vile, but was at least shown using nothing but practical means.
