10 Movie Moments That Should Make You Look Away (But Totally Gripped You)
3. Charlie’s Decapitation - Hereditary
Nut allergy sufferers everywhere were clutching their EpiPens at the sight of this particular scene.
In one of 2018’s most dramatic (and certainly most traumatic movie moments), Charlie, a young girl with a life-threatening nut allergy, eats some cake containing nuts, only to have a severe allergic reaction. Her brother Peter, in an effort to save her, tries driving her to the hospital as quickly as possible. Charlie, going into anaphylactic shock and desperately trying to breathe, sticks her head out of the window and gasps for air. Unfortunately, Peter swerves to avoid roadkill which causes Charlie to be decapitated by a telephone pole.
What really makes this movie moment so horrific is its brutal tragedy, followed by a long and eerie silence that leads up to Toni Collette’s terrifying and grief-stricken screams upon the discovery of Charlie’s headless body. Your mind will tell you to look away, but your eyes will be firmly glued to the screen.
