10 Movie Moments That Terrified You As A Kid (But Are Laughable Now)
3. Billy Butcherson - Hocus Pocus
Hocus Pocus is a Halloween staple - even as an adult, this flick is the perfect cup of warm, delicious nostalgia in autumn time. It's child-friendly, but it also has some grown up humour thrown in for good measure. Yet the scary part as a kid wasn't even the villain, it was a victim of the villain. Billy Butcherson is the dead ex-lover of Winnifred Sanderson; she caught him cheating on her, so like any scorned woman, she poisoned him and then sewed his mouth shut with a dull needle. As child-friendly as this movie was, Billy was kind of terrifying. He was a zombie. Ask any little kid - zombies are awesome in theory, but as soon as they become reality, it's usually not awesome. Plus no one likes to be chased by a Victorian era dead guy with his mouth sewn shut. Nowadays, Billy is hilarious. He spews some of the best insults ("Wench! Trollop! You buck-toothed, mop-riding, firefly from hell!") and he looks like a Halloween decoration. An amateur Zombie decoration that you sit on the porch to scare trick or treaters. Not intimidating in the least.
