2. Trantor - Ernest Scared Stupid

The whole premise of Trantor, this ancient troll who kidnaps children to turn them into wood, is pretty serious to a kid. You can go ahead and admit that Trantor himself is pretty gnarly looking, but the real question is, why does he have two noses? That is slightly unsettling. The scene that really got most kids grasping their flashlights at night was the one in which a little girl looks under her bed and sees nothing is there. Then she turns around and Trantor is in her bedroom to kidnap her. That's awfully disconcerting to a child - most kids' biggest fear is being kidnapped by a human, never mind a giant, mucus-covered ancient troll with two noses. Now the adult mind questions everything about him. Most can logically put together that he is probably so covered in mucous due to his extra nose, but why is it there in the first place? He's also pretty overweight and stout, so he would likely be easy to run from or topple over. Not scary anymore. Just fascinating.
