10 Movie Murders That Were Utterly Impossible To Solve

1. Zodiac

At this point we're getting a little sick of David Fincher's shenanigans. The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo was an adaptation of a novel and Se7en came from a script by Andrew Kevin Walker, but Zodiac was his baby. This time he was entirely responsible for crafting a movie murder mystery that was absolutely impossible to solve, because whilst the audience certainly got a lot of evidence with which to figure out who the titular killer was, they never get to find out if their pet theory was correct €“ because, at the film's end, it's not revealed who the Zodiac killer is. What a cop out! Obviously, like Se7en, that's kind of the point. And it's also just in keeping with the real-life story of the Zodiac killer, who is still at large for all we know. That's pretty scary. Along with being incredibly frustrating because, after investing an epic three hours in Fincher's painstaking recreation of the investigations carried out by both the police and amateur sleuth/crossword composer Robert Graysmith, you want answers. But they're not forthcoming. Which, again, does a pretty good job of emulating the feelings of Graysmith and co themselves. They never got closure, so why should you? Because you paid good money, dammit, and a whodunit is supposed to not only give audiences a chance at unravelling it, but also have an ending. Except life doesn't work that way, does it? Which other impossible movie murder do you think deserve mention on this list? Share your thoughts below in the comments thread.
