The Marvel Cinematic Universe is a franchise that has grown to exponential levels, with countless characters, species, planets, and potential stories to tell. There is literally no limit to what could happen in the future, and what has already happened in the past.

And yet, one of the greatest mysteries for over ten years didn't lie beyond the stars, and didn't revolve around the vast parts of the universe as of yet unexplored; it had to do with Nick Fury's eye. The character's eye patch was legendary, and there was definitely going to be a story behind it.

Since 2008, Fury was arguably the MCU's most mysterious character, and with just one line in The Winter Soldier in 2014, Samuel L. Jackson dialled this up to 11. The last time he trusted someone, he lost an eye. Naturally, when Captain Marvel promised to finally answer the question of what happened five years later, fans were excited.

These same fans were by and large incredibly disappointed by the fact that, although Goose was technically a flerkin, Fury had his eye scratched by a cat. Underwhelming is an understatement in this situation.
