Brad Bird isn't just the mighty talented director behind some of the finest animated features ever to grace the big screen, with credits such as The Iron Giant and The Incredibles to his name, he's also the voice of one of the latter film's most loved characters; superhero fashion designer, Edna Mode.

Yet, from the second Bird breathed life into this diminutive tornado of passion, people started to jump to what appeared to be a fairly obvious conclusion. That being that the character was based on eight-time Academy award winning costume designer Edith Head. I mean the resemblance is a little uncanny, you have to admit.

But that wasn't actually the case as Bird himself denied this myth on Twitter in 2013, going on record to state, "No. People from MANY countries (27 & counting) were convinced I based E on a local icon." when asked "Is Edna Mode really Edith Head?"

So, you heard it straight from the Mode's mouth, not only is there "no capes!", but there's also no sign of Head in this character's origins.
