10 Movie Plot Holes That Will Destroy Your Childhood

1. The Karate Kid - Daniel's Win Is Illegal

The Karate Kid tells the touching story of a somewhat douchey teenager named Daniel LaRusso who befriends an elderly Japanese man and learns how to be great at karate, because this movie was made in the '80s. So great does Daniel become, in fact, that the movie culminates in a dangerous karate tournament, where Daniel has to face off against a variety of characters who look much better at fighting than him, one of whom is bully Johnny, who is best-described as an amalgamation of, like, every '80s bully in cinema history.

This all leads into the movie's most famous moment, when Daniel, whose leg has been severely damaged thanks to some sinister foul-play courtesy of the Cobra Kai Clan, is forced into the final round with arch-nemesis Johnny. This makes way for that iconic "crane" move you've seen spoofed a million times, where Daniel, poised on one leg, hones all his skills and training into a single attack, and unleashes a surprise kick into Johnny's face, winning the tournament, the respect of his peers, and hot Elizabeth Shue.

But how does this make any sense at all, given that we already know from the beginning of the tournament that kicks to the face are illegal and won't be tolerated? I guess that the referee thought Johnny was a massive tw*t, and felt kind of sorry for the weird kid with the limp whose best friend is an old Japanese guy.
