10 Movie Plot Twists So Subtle You Totally Missed Them

2. John Hammond Caused The Incident By... Sparing Expense - Jurassic Park

Jurassic Park's creator, John Hammond (Richard Attenborough), famously declares early on that he "spared no expense" in having the park built, but the movie's real twist is that he absolutely did, the liar.

First and foremost, the movie makes it abundantly clear that the park's main computer programmer, Dennis Nedry (Wayne Knight), is unhappy with the amount of money Hammond's paying him, as inspires him to sneak the dinosaur embryos out of the park to enrich himself, causing the entire disaster.

Michael Crichton's novel actually makes Nedry's situation much clearer - he was hired to run the park primarily due to offering a low bid for the workload, but once he won the gig, Hammond changed the scope of the work, leaving him understandably disgruntled.

This aspect admittedly isn't covered in the movie, but given the enormous expense of operating the park anyway, was it really worth stiffing the guy keeping everything running smoothly?

Because Hammond didn't give Nedry what he asked for - he, whether right or wrong, spared expense - he inadvertently set up the catastrophe that followed.
