10 Movie Plots Made Possible By Ridiculous Convenience

6. Signs: Aliens Are Defeated By Water

Despite seeing conflicting reports when you Google the term: 'what percentage of a human is water?' - the general answer is a very, very high percentage. Which makes the idea of any alien allergic to water coming to Earth - which is also mostly water - to conquer them somewhat odd.

But nobody seems to care in M Night Shyamalan's Signs.

It's entirely possible that the extra-terrestrials didn't know about their crippling weakness to Earth's greatest natural feature but there's every chance they did. Since they have the technology to travel across space, you'd think they'd have invested in a research programme of something.

The real irritation in convenience comes from the fact that Mel Gibson's daughter has a tendency to leave half empty (or half full) glasses of water around the house in particularly convenient places where knocking them over is concerned.

As such, Joaquin Phoenix struggles with one of the threatening aliens; he knocks a glass off that falls onto the invader and reveals their weakness.

Annoying.
