10 Movie Plots Made Possible By Ridiculous Convenience

5. Raiders Of The Lost Ark: U-Boats Only Dive So Far

During World War II, the German U-Boats were notoriously difficult to detect for the Allied Forces thanks to their deep submersible abilities. There were other techy features of the craft but when you think U-Boat, you think deep diving submarine.

Unless you're Lawrence Kasdan or George Lucas, that is.

As far as these two icons of film are concerned, U-Boats only drop under the surface enough that their periscopes are still above the waves - which is where yet another instance of ridiculous convenience appears in the movies.

When the Nazis manage to get their mitts on the Ark of the Covenant, they load the artefact onto their U-Boat and make their way across the Aegean Sea to a remote spot to test its power. Little did they know that Indiana Jones was on top of the U-Boat and, as a deleted scene shows us, was able to cling onto the periscope undetected despite the ship being submersed.

This simply wouldn't happen, it just wouldn't.
