10 Movie Post-Credits Scenes That Lied
3. Coming Soon... Airplane III - Airplane II: The Sequel
Airplane II: The Sequel wraps up with an amusing post-credits tease for another sequel, with a tag proclaiming that Airplane III is in the works and on the way soon.
The tag is accompanied by a snippet of William Shatner's Commander Buck Murdock paraphrasing the original film's iconic one-liner, "That's exactly what they'll be expecting us to do."
Considering how quickly Airplane II was put together, there didn't seem to be much doubt that a third film would be on the way soon enough, and Paramount was already in talks with all the principal cast and crew to return for the threequel before Airplane II had even been released.
But those plans were scuppered for reportedly two reasons: firstly, the second film cost four times the original but made barely 15% of its $171 million box office, and secondly, according to series star Robert Hays, he simply refused to return.
Either way, it's amusing that Paramount never bothered to remove the tag from home video releases of the film, considering how easy it would've been. In its own way, it functions as one final gag, really.
