10 Movie Prequels You Didn't Know Were Coming

A film adaptation of the wildly successful Wizard Of Oz prequel musical has been talked about since way back in 2004, but the producers cleverly decided to sit on it until box office sales for the stage show dropped. Considering the fact that it surpassed $1 billion in total Broadway revenue in March 2016 that looks to have been a pretty shrewd decision.

Coincidentally, 2016 was also the first year Universal set a release date for the movie adaptation, deciding on Christmas 2019. Ultimately, it was then dropped out of the schedule for Cats, but we now know that it's coming on December 22nd, 2021 instead.

As anyone who has seen the stage show will know, the story charts how Elphaba becomes the Wicked Witch Of The West and while we've seen a version of that before in Oz The Great And Powerful, there's certainly room for a musical take. Stephen Daldry will direct too, which is even more cause for positivity.
