10 Movie Prequels You Didn't Know Were Coming

4. Amityville 1974

No matter how many poor sequels are released (most recently in 2018 with the AWFUL The Amityville Murders), there's still an appetite for Amityville Horror movies. That may come as some surprise to the many people who saw the early films and then clearly didn't watch any of the knock-off follow-ups, but there we go.

Believe it or not, the newly announced Amityville 1974 - another prequel in the franchise based on the murders that inspired it all (and which has already been covered) and kicked off the original movie starring Margot Kidder and James Brolin in 1979 - will become the 24th film in the series. TWENTY FOUR.

Focusing on the original murders and not the hauntings afterwards is an interesting angle (as it was when 1982's Amityville II: The Possession looked at it), but more than any other upcoming prequel, this one is going to have to do a lot of heavy lifting to fight for any kind of attention.
