10 Movie Recasts That Totally Trolled Fans
8. The Griswold Children (Vegas Vacation)
Some people know Chevy Chase as a big-time movie star and an all-time SNL great, others know him as the despicable yet hilarious Pierce from Community, and then there are some (mostly youngsters) who don't know him at all.
No matter which of these groups you belong to, there's no denying that Vegas Vacation (the fourth instalment of the National Lampoon's Vacation series) is a low point in his career. Despite that, it did at least chuck out some clever trolling.
One issue with running a film series about a family and their vacations is child actors. You need to make sure those youngsters remain visibly young, which is why the Vacation series would recast the roles of Audrey and Rusty for every flick. Vegas Vacation was no exception, but it made a good gag out of it.
Early in the film, Chase's Clark Griswold acknowledges the casting change by saying, "you guys are growing up so fast, I hardly recognise you anymore". The camera then lingers on his confused face and then on them.
Chase might as well have just turned to the camera after this line and winked.
