10 Movie Remakes Nobody Wanted (That Were Actually Pretty Good)
5. Fright Night (2011)
The 1980s has so many classic horror movies that it's almost quite hard to believe. Some films, such as Ghostbusters (1984) and A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984), went on to become global franchises, whereas others have failed to remain relevant. Fright Night from 1985 comes under that latter category.
Yet, this classic vampire story was given a second chance in 2011 and is arguably the most controversial entry on this list. It only amassed a worldwide box office return of $41 million dollars against an initial $30 million production budget, and its reviews are somewhat middle of the road with a 72% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
However, the Fright Night remake does everything it should and can do. It stays true to the original's humor and has fun with the premise, including updated special effects. The film follows high-school student Charlie Brewster who soon discovers his next door neighbor, Jerry, is a vampire. Charley then decides to hire TV personality and vampire hunter, Peter Vincent, to challenge Jerry.
Fright Night has amassed a cult following since its introduction in 1985, and the 2011 remake does it justice. With an impressive cast including Colin Farrell, David Tennant, and the late Anton Yelchin, Fright Night is great, horror fun that has undeservedly slipped under the radar of many.
