10 Movie Remakes Nobody Wanted (That Were Actually Pretty Good)

4. Ocean's Eleven (2001)

Dawn Of The Dead
Warner Bros.

You'd be forgiven to forget that Ocean Eleven was originally a 1960s heist movie starring Frank Sinatra. It never quite stood the test of time and it failed to be hailed as a classic like so many from the Golden Age of Hollywood. Therefore, the 2001 Ocean's Eleven remake makes a strong case for being the most successful remake of all time.

Much like the original, the film follows Danny Ocean, this time played by George Clooney, who is released from prison and immediately sets his sights on a new heist. The film is both humorous and daring as Danny Ocean recruits ten members to plan an elaborate mission to steal $160 million from a casino.

The main draw of the film, and the reason for its success, is the stellar cast attached to it. Alongside Clooney, the film stars Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, and Julia Roberts. These actors were reaching the prime of their careers and brought their level of buzz to the project.

Ocean's Eleven exceeds the original in all almost every way from cast and set-pieces to style and entertainment. It was the fifth highest-grossing film at the worldwide box office with a respectable $450 million dollars. Clooney, Pitt, and Damon all returned for the sequel, Ocean's Twelve in 2004, and Ocean's Thirteen, the conclusion of the trilogy, in 2007.
