10 Movie Remakes Nobody Wanted (That Were Actually Pretty Good)
6. True Grit (2010)
John Wayne is one of the most iconic American movie stars of all time and the quintessential Hollywood cowboy. So remaking any of his movies could only be done with the best directors at the helm - and the Coen Brothers are certainly that.
The True Grit remake was released in 2010 to great anticipation considering the reputation of the Coen Brothers. From Fargo (1996), to The Big Lebowski (1998), and No Country for Old Men (2007), almost all of their films are masterpieces. True Grit is no exception.
With a stellar cast including Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, Josh Brolin, and a breakthrough performance by a young Hailee Steinfeld, True Grit may exceed the original in terms of prestigious acting talent. The remake follows an almost identical plot to the original film as it follows Rooster Cogburn after he is hired to hunt down an outlaw guilty of murder.
The film was well received, and also went on to be nominated for a mammoth ten Oscars including Best Picture, Best Directing, Best Adapted Screenplay and acting nominations for both Bridges and Steinfeld.
This all proves that True Grit is a masterpiece of a remake and one of the best modern Westerns ever made.
