10 Movie Roles That Pissed Actors Off
8. Harrison Ford & Tommy Lee Jones (Dr. Richard Kimble & Deputy Sam Gerard) - The Fugitive
Though The Fugitive ended up receiving seven Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, and winning Tommy Lee Jones a well-earned Best Supporting Actor Oscar, it seems like basically everybody who worked on it thought it was going to turn out horribly.
In a 2023 retrospective published by Rolling Stone, cast member Joe Pantoliano said, "We were lucky... Everybody thought this was going to be a real dud, except for [director] Andy Davis."
According to co-star Daniel Roebuck, Harrison Ford said to him in the middle of a scene, "Oh, man, this is going to be my Hudson Hawk."
And then there's Jones, who also believed the film would be a total failure and thought to himself while shooting one scene, "I’ll never work again. This is never going to work. And the best thing I can do is be as clear, concise, and coherent as possible, deliver these lines as cleanly and dutifully as possible, and maybe I’ll get another job one day, somewhere down the line.”
The irony, of course, is that Deputy Sam Gerard became Jones' most acclaimed and arguably even most iconic role, while Dr. Richard Kimble is one of Ford's most notable non-franchise parts. Yet both thought they were making pure cinematic tripe.
