10 Movie Roles That Pissed Actors Off

5. Vincent D'Onofrio - Orson Welles (Ed Wood)

Vincent D'Onofrio has a brief but memorable supporting role in Tim Burton's Ed Wood where he plays legendary filmmaker Orson Welles, who meets Wood (Johnny Depp) in a bar and offers him some sage advice.

Though D'Onofrio is a dead ringer for Welles, you might notice that the voice doesn't sound like D'Onofrio at all, and that's because Burton was dissatisfied with the actor's vocal performance and decided to dub him over in post-production. The voice you're actually hearing is the unmistakable Maurice LaMarche.

D'Onofrio spoke about the role in a 2005 interview with IGN, where he revealed that he was unhappy with his own performance, citing frustration with the lack of time he was given to prepare. He said:

"I never was happy with the job I did in Ed Wood... It's not what I wanted. First of all, the company... took a very long time to hire me and I was busy doing another project. I eventually only ended up with three weeks to prepare for it and that bothered me. But you know, I had to be brave and I had to do it the best I could. It was too much of a caricature. I didn't like it. It was too surface of a performance."

It evidently bothered D'Onofrio enough that he ended up writing, directing, and starring in his own Orson Welles short film, Five Minutes, Mr. Welles, which premiered to acclaim at the 2005 Venice Film Festival.
