10 Movie Scenes You Didn't Realise Were Tricking You

9. It Wasn't That Rainy At All - Crawl

Despite it being something of a surprise summer 2019 hit, a lot of folks missed the fact that alligator horror flick Crawl possessed arguably some of the most subtle CGI work you'll find in any feature washing its way into cinema screens any time soon.

With the vast majority of the big reptile romp taking place in the wet and pouring rains of Florida, a sound stage was largely used to create the scenario of Hurricane Wendy causing liquid havoc for Kaya Scodelario's Haley Keller as some CGI alligators eye up their dinner.

And while it came as little surprise to see the creators relying an awful lot on digital wizardry to create the devious aforementioned creatures, the fact that the crazy waves of rain seen lashing down on vehicles and folks throughout the flick weren't created via an on-set sprinkler comes as a bit of a shock.

Added largely in post-production, the effect is pretty much seamless, skilfully combining some real-life pools of rain water on the stage with their digital counterpart to create the feeling of being trapped in a terrifying storm.
