10 Movie Scenes You Didn't Realise Were Tricking You

3. Reese Witherspoon's Hair Wasn't Available - Legally Blonde

Few characters have become as synonymous with their luscious locks as Reese Witherspoon's Elle Woods is with her golden weave. But what you may not be aware of is that audiences' first real interaction with the Legally Blonde leading light and her legendary hair didn't actually contain any Witherspoon at all.

With the eventual Oscar-winner not available to shoot the film's opening credits sequence due to already being occupied with shooting The Importance of Being Earnest over in England, Witherspoon's double was brought into the mix for the brushing of the blonde follicles in question.

Weirdly enough, however, with test audiences not exactly reacting well to the initially conceived ending which lacked the film's graduation conclusion, said scene and Witherspoon's part in it was ultimately filmed over in London's Dulwich College, standing in for Harvard Law School, due to the actor being away from the U.S.

The fact Witherspoon had chopped her boff and was forced to wear a wig for this graduation moment likely factored into not trying to have her brush said artificial hair in a pick-up of that aforementioned opening sequence. But it still feels odd that the character and her iconic locks' initial appearance didn't actually involve any trace of Witherspoon herself.
