The Simpsons movie was a throwback to that wonderful time when Fox's animated show about a yellow-skinned family was the greatest thing on Earth.
It may not have matched the quality of the series' heyday (what possibly could?) but it was an admirable attempt to pull off that unlikely feat.
The Simpson has been largely stale on the small screen in recent years, so 2018 would be a good time take them in a more ambitious direction in another movie.
The show's 28th season has just kicked off, and that will take it beyond the 600 episodes mark. Isn't that enough? Is there really anything left for The Simpsons to achieve on television?
Our most significant development on the matter since Maggie said "sequel" before the first movie's credits rolled came recently when the show's produce Al Jean revealed that a follow-up was in early planning.
If that's not happening anytime soon, can we at least have a Futurama film, Al?
