10 Movie Sequels That Brought Characters Back In The Worst Way Possible

6. Claire Redfield - Resident Evil: The Final Chapter

Despite being far more successful than it has any right to be, the Resident Evil franchise has to be one of the worst offenders in cinema's long history when it comes to sh***ing all over fans' investment. The storyline shifts wildly from movie to movie, with the writers forgetting things they'd previously established and completely ignoring cliffhanger endings to swiftly move onto something completely different.

However all of that pales in comparison to the way it treats core characters - especially those taken straight from the video game source material. Fans waited years to see the likes of Jill Valentine and Leon S. Kennedy to team up on screen, with it finally happening at the end of the fifth movie, setting the stage for a last-stand fight for Earth in the sequel. Naturally, they ended up being killed off screen between movies.

One of the rare characters to not be killed off between sequels was Claire Redfield, but in hindsight it might have actually been less insulting if she was. After enjoying a prominent role in the third movie, the franchise proceeded to get immediately bored with her, giving her amnesia in the fourth flick to write her out, dropping her entirely for the fifth, and then finally bringing her back for the final instalment - in a role literally any other character could have occupied.
