10 Movie Sequels That Brought Characters Back In The Worst Way Possible

5. Dr. Ian Malcolm - Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

While the Jurassic World movies clearly respect and quite often pay homage to the original instalments in the franchise, so far they've been rather cautious about having characters from those films appear in the flesh. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom was set to change that, though, bringing back Jeff Goldblum's Dr. Ian Malcolm and not only capitalising on nostalgia for the original but the currently in-vogue Goldblum cultural revival.

However, the role turned out to be little more than an extended cameo, a single scene that simply had Goldblum delivering a monologue and not interacting with anyone from the main cast. In the context of the movie it kinda works, as Malcolm is entirely extraneous to the main narrative, and it would have been difficult to crowbar him into it directly, but that's not at all the impression the pre-release hype gave of the actor's return.

The trailers revealed almost all of Goldblum's screen time, making his over a decade-long return to the franchise an utterly underwhelming experience.
