10 Movie Sequels That Brought Characters Back In The Worst Way Possible

3. Elizabeth Shaw - Alien: Covenant

Whether you enjoyed Prometheus or not, Noomi Rapace's Elizabeth Shaw was an excellent character to lead this new franchise, with the movie's final tease of the scientist heading off even further into space in order to track down the aliens who killed the rest of her squad - with only the dismembered head of a morally grey android for company, no less - seemingly setting up a sequel that couldn't fail.

And while there was some back and forth on whether Rapace would actually show up for the sequel, now titled Alien: Covenant, she was eventually confirmed to be joining for a few key scenes. Consequently, everyone was taken by surprise when Shaw turned up in the new film, albeit completely dead and under examination on an autopsy table.

While killing off a character with such potential off screen is already a crime, Shaw's character arc actually was resolved in scenes shot for the movie - which were then cut out and relegated to a YouTube "prologue" short film.
