10 Movie Sequels That Failed To Recapture The Magic

3. Son Of The Mask

The Mask has a lot going for it. Jim Carrey's physical comedy is top notch, Cameron Diaz is introduced to audiences for the first time, and there's just enough depth to the plot with hints at darker undertones to make it an enjoyable watch.

Son Of The Mask has none of these things. In fact, it really doesn't have much going for it at all. The comedy just feels obnoxious without Carrey spearheading the project, and many of its moments fall flat. It relies heavily on its CGI effects, which leave the movie feeling more like a slideshow of cartoon gags, rather than having a proper narrative.

Despite its PG rating and being geared towards a younger audience, some of the jokes in the film verge on inappropriate and just plain gross. Is a scene with green cartoon sperm swimming to an egg really necessary? It's probably best to avert your kids' eyes from this disaster, not just because it's inappropriate, but also because it's only best watched as a form of cruel punishment.
