10 Movie Sequels That Just Copied The Original

2. I Spit On Your Grave 2

Terminator 1 T2 Arnie

Released in 2010, Steven R Monroe’s I Spit On Your Grave was a remake of Meir Zarchi’s notorious rape-revenge movie (which Kim Newman claimed was “among the most loathsome films of all time”) that toned down the suffering of its female protagonist and turned her into a cartoonish avenging angel inflicting over the top punishments on her attackers.

Released in 2013, the imaginatively titled I Spit On Your Grave 2 does something truly loathsome – it turns rape-revenge into a franchise. This time, the violence is directed against a different woman (played by Jemma Dallender), but it’s the same story all over again and relocating the action to Bulgaria doesn’t change that.

After being kidnapped, tortured and raped by some one-dimensional clowns that have “dead meat” written all over them, Dallender exacts revenge as only a woman in a movie written and directed by men could – she crushes testicles, tortures her opponents with electroshock and drowns one unfortunate in a toilet. See what I mean about loathsome?
