It’s well-documented that Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill movies were not originally devised as a two-parter, but as one film. When QT presented his rough cut, which came out to around four hours, he was convinced to divide the film into two, releasing each volume mere months apart. Despite the format of release, Tarantino still considers Kill Bill as only one entry in his planned ten-movie filmography, with 2019’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood being his ninth.

Since Kill Bill is apparently one movie, one which brought the journey of Uma Thurman’s the Bride to a satisfying conclusion, it’s surprising that the idea of Kill Bill Vol. 3 has been floating around for so long.

The catalyst for this could be an exchange from Vol. 1 when, after a battle with a former assassin colleague from which the Bride emerges victorious, she offers the woman’s daughter a chance to settle the score later down the line.

Since Tarantino’s next film is proposed to be his last, chances are low that it will be a third Kill Bill. Enthusiasts may have to accept that the revenge story that was teased in Vol. 1 may not get a cinematic payoff.
