10 Movie Sequels That MOCKED What Fans Hated
1. Resident Evil: Afterlife Mocked Alice Being Overpowered
Few would dare claim that Paul W.S. Anderson's Resident Evil movies equate to quality cinema, though the first film was a comparatively modest B-movie, while the sequels irritated fans with their increasingly cartoonish depiction of protagonist Alice (Milla Jovovich).
Each new sequel saw Alice become progressively more over-powered due to her exposure to the T-virus, culminating in the third film, Resident Evil: Extinction, revealing that Alice now commands an army of Alice clones which she plans to fight Umbrella with.
As if Anderson realised that he'd taken things too far, the follow-up Resident Evil: Afterlife kicked off with all the clones being quickly blown up by Wesker (Shawn Roberts) in the film's outrageously OTT opening action sequence.
Resident Evil as a movie franchise was too far gone by this point to be truly salvageable, but the perfunctory manner in which the clones were obliterated seemed to suggest that Anderson knew he'd written himself into a corner, and so literally blasted his way out of it in the most comically absurd way possible.
