10 Movie Sequels That Recast Major Characters (For The Better)

5. Sabretooth - X-Men Origins: Wolverine

War Machine Terrence Howard Don Cheadle
20th Century Studios

It doesn't make much sense that Sabretooth would mutate from the black-eyed blonde mute Tyler Mane to the extremely talkative, extremely dark haired Liev Schrieber between movies, but that's essentially Fox's X-Men in a nutshell. However one reconciles continuity (entirely different characters using the same codename? Mutation between movies?) few can deny that Schrieber was a positive upgrade on his predecessor.

Schrieber's Sabretooth gave Logan the film's finest antagonist, and Hugh Jackman an actor of equal mettle to bounce off of. X-Men: Origins is one of the franchise's worst, but we cannot count Schrieber's Sabretooth (Schriebertooth?) among its missteps. In fact, the actor did so well, we were almost sorry that he didn't get to return for Jackman's swansong, Logan.
