Belated comedy sequels seem especially difficult to get right, if only because they have a tendency to dine out on the same gags all over again while turning the once-lovable characters into caricatures.

Still, The Odd Couple II had a secret weapon up its sleeve: the returning dream team of Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau as divorced polar opposites Felix Ungar and Oscar Madison.

Was It Worth The Wait?

Unfortunately not. You can't argue with the sheer charm offensive of the Lemmon and Matthau reunion, but the script is lazy and only intermittently funny, and so all the two actors can do is try to elevate it with their mere presence.

While not a total embarrassment, it's certainly an unnecessary sequel that failed to justify its own creation. Sadly both actors only made one more film afterwards, and each passed away shortly thereafter.
