10 Movie Sequels That Were 30 Years In The Making

2. Tron: Legacy (2010)

Despite how inherently tied to the 1980s Tron was, the idea of a VR world had far more relevance to modern audiences, so it was inevitable we'd see a continuation of the story sooner or later. That continuation came in the form of a direct sequel, reuniting Jeff Bridges and Bruce Boxleitner and adding new cast members Olivia Wilde, Garrett Hedlund and Michael Sheen.

We went back to the Grid and a lot had changed in almost three decades.

Was It Worth The Wait?

Apart from decidedly ropy CGI work on deaging Jeff Bridges (this was well before it had become an over-used artform), Tron: Legacy is a good ride. A far better one than its massively divided critical consensus would suggest.

The story is a good continuation of the origin and the effects work is far better (though the point of the original was that it was so different to everything before it, so the sequel loses some of that luster). The soundtrack by Daft Punk is also one of the greatest in modern times.
