7. Joker 2

While we were all led to believe that Joker was always going to be a stand-alone movie, that doesn't mean it can't be more. It does, after all, establish the foundation for an ongoing franchise in what happens with Gotham's most famous family at the end.

Joaquin Phoenix is incredible as the titular character and seeing him possibly appear in a Batman cross-over is massively exciting. Not just because Phoenix's performance deserves it, but because the prospect of seeing how he'd balance against another equally big character is intriguing.

More important even than the potential Batman link-up - which could be rather wonderful, because Phoenix's performance is so mesmerising - is the idea of exploring more of Gotham's story as a whole, reflected in Joker's evolution. This Gotham isn't the one we see in the Batman movies, its fall is brand new and its "evils" are fresh and seeing how it's moulded into the living, breathing monster it later becomes is a really compelling idea in itself.
