9. A Simple Favor 2
Speaking of 2018 mega-hits, Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick's terrific thriller A Simple Favor was one of the most pleasant surprises of that year.
It came out of nowhere and earned a strong 84-percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics praising its style, well-plotted twists, and strong lead performances. It then went on to more than quadruple its production budget, so it's no surprise that Lionsgate and Amazon Studios announced a sequel earlier this year.
While the first film worked as a tight, compelling standalone story, it also left just enough threads dangling to make a sequel feel earned. No spoilers here, because you should absolutely go and watch it if you haven't already!
While A Simple Favor 2 doesn't yet have a firm release date, the movie can easily launch in 2023 if it goes before cameras by the end of this year. The first film hit cinemas in September 2018, so an autumn 2023 bow for the followup is a solid bet.
