10 Movie Sequels You Probably Never Knew Existed
1. Ace Ventura Jr: Pet Detective
Clearly, we learned nothing from Son of the Mask or Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd. Sequels to Jim Carrey movies without Jim Carrey just don't work, especially when they're further dumbed down for the sake of a younger audience.
Alas, it seems not everyone in Hollywood got this memo, hence this 2007 spin-off of Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, which casts Josh Flitter (who, curiously, appeared as a school bully from Carrey's memory in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) as the son of the 'great' investigator of animal-specific crime.
You already know what's going to happen. He's got the same ridiculous quiff and horrendous Hawaiian shirt. He's painfully overconfident, particularly in the face of girls who are completely out of his league. He says 'alrighty then' direct to the camera.
As surely goes without saying, young Flitter doesn't come close to matching Carrey's comedic energy, nor does the lame script and direction do him any favours. Like most direct-to-DVD sequels before and since, it's best to just ignore this movie and pretend it never happened.
