10 Movie Sequels You Probably Never Knew Existed
8. S Darko
2001's Donnie Darko has, for better or worse, proven to be a total one-off. With his feature debut, young writer-director Richard Kelly found himself widely hailed as the new Tarantino, a unique cinematic visionary for the new millennium.
And, in one of the great cautionary tales of our times, Kelly singularly failed to live up to those expectations. He spectacularly crashed and burned on his overambitious sophomore movie Southland Tales, and his simpler third feature The Box was met with widespread indifference. He hasn't made another movie since.
However, this hasn't stopped others from trying to cash in on his early success, hence this 2009 direct-to-DVD sequel to Donnie Darko, which casts Daveigh Chase as the younger sister of Jake Gyllenhaal's Donnie, who goes on her own weird misadventure in space and time.
The few that cared to see S Darko don't seem to have much favourable to say about it, and Kelly himself has openly spoken out against the film, which he says he will never see.
In early 2017, both Kelly and Gyllenhaal spoke of their interest in making an official Donnie Darko sequel, but little more has been heard on the subject since.
