10 Movie Sequels You Probably Never Knew Existed
7. Fright Night 2: New Blood
This is particularly curious one. While the 2011 remake of Fright Night boasted a big name cast (Colin Farrell, David Tenant, the sadly missed Anton Yelchin) and got a wide theatrical release, it was also a box office bomb, taking a mere $41 million worldwide.
Fair to say, then, that the Fright Night remake probably passed a lot of us by... and yet, it was still spawned a direct-to-DVD sequel in 2013's Fright Night 2: New Blood.
And yet, this 'sequel' was really just another remake of the 1985 original. Given that 1988's Fright Night Part 2 was itself little more than a direct retread of the first film, we've essentially had the same film four times now.
Shot in Romania on an obviously much lower budget, Fright Night 2: New Blood cast largely unknown actors in the roles of Charley Brewster, Peter Vincent, Amy and 'Evil' Ed. The film's principal innovation (we're using that word extremely loosely) was gender-swapping the vampire antagonist from Jerry Dandridge to Gerri Dandridge.
Then again, 1988's Fright Night Part 2 centred on Jerry Dandridge's vampire sister... so actually, it's nothing new at all.
