4. Gladiator 2

For a while, the Gladiator sequel that we could have got - which was written by Nick Cave and included multi-generational reincarnation movie in which the Roman Gods would bring Maximus back to defend Christians against persecution in Rome. So far so normalish, but then he'd travel to other important periods in history - World War II, the Vietnam War and the modern-day Pentagon - among others.

This was legitimately an idea that was considered and even though it was rejected for being too far-fetched, if THAT was how they were genuinely thinking of a sequel at one point, you'd have to think they never had a good idea for a viable.

Cut to November 2018, though, and all of a sudden a sequel is in active development and Ridley Scott is returning. Presumably they found a slightly less bonkers idea. Or we can only hope they did...
