4. Jim Carrey - How Roland Rolls
Is there anything the gurning lunatic cant do? Absolutely not, for Jim Carrey is capable of not only creating magic on the silver screen but also on the printed page, as award-winning childrens novel How Roland Rolls proved. The story of a wave named Burt who is terrified of breaking onto the shore for fear that his life will be over, he slowly comes to realise that, although hes just one wave in a big bad ocean, hes an intrinsic part of the universe at large. For all the comic moments and delightful turns of phrase, theres a beautiful sentimentality at the heart of the book that might surprise fans of the wonky-faced pet detective. Indeed, at times its close to tear-jerking as the wave learns to understand his own depths, the novel proving a metaphor for the value and importance of each and every human being on the planet. Sniff, sniff.
