10 Movie Storylines Actors REFUSED To Do
7. The Parents Get Back Together - Mrs. Doubtfire
While he may have spent much of Mrs. Doubtfire creepily pretending to be a nanny so he could spend time with his kids and secretly sabotage his ex-wife's love life, Daniel Hillard (Robin Williams) does still end up making up with Miranda and even getting joint custody of their children.
However, there was actually a time there when various studio execs, agents, and managers were all trying to squeeze in a happier ending - one that saw Daniel and Miranda get back together.
According to Robin Williams' biography, though, written by Dave Itzkoff (via SlashFilm), the actor wasn't a fan of that conclusion.
You see, the star under the prosthetics, and his family, had already gone through a divorce from his first wife. So, Robin knew that this sort of Hollywood happy ending just wasn't realistic and would create false hope for kids in the middle of a divorce all around the globe.
Sally Field, who'd also gone through a divorce beforehand, wasn't interested in this particular ending either, with director Chris Columbus eventually agreeing with his stars that this unrealistic finale had no place in the movie.
