10 Movie Stunts That Went Horribly Wrong
1. Joi Harris' Tragic Motorcycle Accident - Deadpool 2
The story of Sequana Joi Harris and her time on the set of Deadpool 2 is a heartbreaking one. As the first African American female professional road racer, it was Harris' first time as a stunt performer on a film, having only joined production one week prior.
She was the stunt double for the character Domino during her motorcycle riding and had been selected because her skin tone matched the one of actress Zazie Beetz - although more experienced double Melissa R. Stubbs was willing to fill in. Joi had two days of rehearsal, and was allowed up to six attempts at the ride. She wasn't given a helmet because the character Domino doesn't wear one either and the crew didn't have enough time to make one up.
Sadly, she lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the Sham tower. The decision to have someone as inexperienced as Harris act as Domino's double came under criticism from many other stunt professionals, claiming that her ability to ride motorcycles did not necessarily qualify her as an able stunt performer.
The film did included a dedication to her in the credits - "In memory of Sequana Harris".
