German Title: Der Ritter Der Kokosnuß

English Translation: The Knights Of The Coconut

The Pythons have always been instrumental in representing British humor internationally but In 1975, their film Monty Python's The Holy Grail officially made the comedy troupe a force to be reckoned with on a global scale.

It is worth noting that the problem with most movies that are translated into a foreign language is that the dubbed version rarely matches the original in terms of the semantic nuances which are often too difficult to translate. Such was the case in Monty Python's The Holy Grail which unlike the Life Of Brian, fell flat among German audiences whose taste in humor could just be as much to blame for its negative reception.

But that's not to say that the Germans are lacking in the humor department as popular belief would like to dictate. One way in which this myth can be easily debunked is evidenced by the ridiculous title in question.

The tale follows that the Pythons, having spent so much on production, were unable to afford horses for King Arthur and his knights. In the face of such acute budget problems, they decided to have the actors hop around pretending to ride on horses whilst servants clattered coconut shells repeatedly to simulate hoof noises - and that's how the German title was born!
