10 Movie Trailer Cliches Everyone Is Tired Of
3. Scenes That Aren't In The Movie
While on one hand an unpredictable trailer can throw off audience expectations in a pleasant way, isn't it also super annoying when an awesome-looking shot, one-liner or entire sequence from a trailer doesn't make it into the final film?
Obviously filmmaking is a collaborative and variable process where just about everything can be altered in post-production, the phrase "kill your darlings" doesn't quite apply when it comes to incredible trailer money shots.
Examples: Rogue One's marketing featured a number of alternate takes and sequences (most presumably cut to extensive re-shoots), Spider-Man: Homecoming missed out that incredible shot of Spidey (Tom Holland) and Iron Man flying through the air, and Avengers: Infinity War elided the epic hero shot of The Avengers running towards the screen (which may or may not end up in Endgame).
