Krzysztof Kieślowski's Three Colours trilogy is split into three chapters - Blue, White and Red - with each film focusing on the French Revolutionary ideals of emotional liberty, equality and friendship.

Blue follows a woman (Juliette Binoche) as she attempts to move on from her husband and daughter's death; White concerns a man (Zbigniew Zamachowski) whose life is overcome with dreams of revenge when his wife (Julie Delpy) leaves him; and Red follows a woman (Irene Jacob) who forms a bond with a strange and invasive judge (Jean-Louis Trintignant).

Each film is interconnected with recurring characters, images and motifs, each balancing melancholic humour with dire tragedy, romance and grief.

A Polish series made as a co-production between Polish, French and Swiss studios, Kieślowski's trilogy examines the nature of the human heart in a deep and often powerful way, showing a director at the height of his powers and crafting a mind-altering handful of films that every movie fan has to see at least once.
