10 Movie Trilogy Conclusions Fans Are Still Desperate To See

4. Sherlock Holmes

Guy Ritchie was never going to be a director concerned with capturing the intricate mechanics of sleuthing found in Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's source material, but his Sherlock Holmes movies certainly entertain with their inventive action set-pieces and a twisting plot. Robert Downey, Jr. is by turns charming and eccentric in the title role, while Mark Strong's villain Lord Geoffrey Blackwood is a convincing menace. The sequel, Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows, was essentially more of the same, with the added bonus of bringing in everyone fan's favourite antagonist, Professor Moriarty (played by a suitably creepy and enigmatic Jared Harris). When can we expect the final instalment? Sherlock Holmes 3 was first announced by Warner Bros. in 2011, with a script already in the works. Given the high profile of Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law, finding a time in their busy schedules is as big a concern as fine tuning the script. The latest report came back in June 2015 when producer Lionel Wigram revealed a script was taking shape, saying "For us, if we're going to do a third Sherlock Holmes, it has to be fantastic, so we have to be really confident that we can give the audience a story that makes them say, 'Wow, this was worth it, this was better than the last two.'"
